My retirement and reinvention and other thoughts

Now that I’m retired and with the limitations we are putting on ourselves to protect us from the Covid-19 virus, I’ve been trying to figure out how I can still be an influence for good in this world and especially with my family. I’ve been pondering and praying about this topic for a long time. Now that I’m 70 years old, I figure that I still only have 10-15 good years left. My dad passed away when he was 76. My mom passed away when she was 80. If I follow in their footsteps, I may not make it to see my 9th decade. So, I’d better make good while I still have it in me to do so.

In January I was let go from my job at Ivanti. When my top boss, our President Steve Daly was let go, I knew I was next. (He said he was retiring, but that was not true as evidenced by the fact that this week he accepted a new CEO position with Instructure. He didn’t retire from work, just from Ivanti.) So, a week after Steve departed I was gone too. Then a week after I left my entire HR management chain, Dallin Johns and Sue Urses were let go also.

For me, it was a very good timing. I was working with the schools sponsoring and staffing STEM Events. Come the middle of March the schools were closed and all of the events I was planning on staffing were cancelled. So, thanks to Ivanti, I received a paycheck through the end of March even though I wasn’t working and couldn’t have done my job anyway. I am now in my reinvention stage.

This is me.
