We took a trip to see our first grandson Leland Q and his parents Quenton and Sabrina Hale.
We flew from SLC to Indianapolis, through Atlanta. While we had hoped that we could have seen Emily on our way, since they live in the Atlanta Area, the time between our two segments was less than an hour, so we had to hustle between gates to get to our Indianapolis flight. When we left SLC, the two gates were in separate concourses, but when we got to Atlanta, the second flight was in the same concourse. I had requested a wheel chair to be waiting for Kathie when we got off the flight in Atlanta. It was a good thing I did so, because Kathie would have been hard pressed to walk between the gates. So, having someone push her in a wheelchair really helped.
When we got to Indianapolis it was raining. Since we got there at midnight, we decided to get a hotel near the airport and stay overnight, have breakfast the next morning and then head to Anderson Indiana, where Quenton and Sabrina live. We rented a car at the Airport and drove to the hotel on our own.
We got up on Friday morning, had breakfast and started our drive to Quenton and Sabrina’s. They have a cute little home that they are renting in Anderson Indiana. This is a photo of the home before it was remodeled. I’ll have Quenton send me a photo of the home as it exists now that they are living there.
We stayed in another Marriott Fairfield in Anderson. It was a very nice place to stay.
We had a rather interesting experience while we were there. We went with Q & S to the Bob Ross Museum. While there, as we were sitting in the parking lot, Quenton walked up behind our car, with Kathie in the driver’s seat. He asked Kathie if she was pressing on the brake pedal. She said she was. He then told us that we had no brake lights other than the little light over the trunk. After verifying that, indeed, we had no brake lights, I called the car rental company and they told me to take it to an Enterprise Car Rental agency there in Anderson.
When we got to Enterprise, they told us they couldn’t help us. So, we drove the car back to the hotel without any brake lights. The next morning, Saturday, I called l our car rental agency and told them that we had no brake lights and that Enterprise would not help us. They asked if I felt comfortable driving the car without brake lights and I told them no. So, they sent a tow truck from downtown Indy to get the car. They sent an Uber to pick us up and take us back to the airport to get another car.
Fortunately, we had decided to tour Indy on Saturday, so Q & S met us downtown after we got our new car.
We were blessed as we went downtown to get lunch. I didn’t have any idea where to go, but as we drove into Indy, I saw that there was a downtown mall nearby. We found a place to park the car. We figured we would have to walk around a bit until we found a place to have lunch. As luck would have it (or was it not just luck?) as we got out of the elevator that took us into the mall, we discovered that we had parked right below the food court. So, we got off the elevator and there was the food court. I felt that we were being watched over.
We toured the Indy War Memorial with Q & S .
We then walked around the Indianapolis temple. (See more photos in gallery below)
On Sunday we went to Church with Q & S but Leland was not feeling well, so we just did Sacrament meeting and then returned to our hotel for the afternoon. Sabrina treated us to dinner on Sunday.
On Monday Quenton went back to work, so Kathie and I decided to just drive around Anderson. Quenton told us about an Amish store a few miles away. So we drove across the countryside and found the Amish restaurant. He wanted us to buy him some Apple Cider. While we were there, we bought a fried chicken lunch. There were some tables across the road from the store where we ate our lunch.
We took Q & S to dinner that night at a Country Kitchen Restaurant.
On Tuesday morning, we invited the Hales to come over to the Hotel and go for a swim. As you can see from the photos, Q & Leland went for a swim in our pool. We left Tuesday afternoon and returned home.
Here are the photos from this visit with Q & S and Little Q.
